For almost a month after her father's funeral, there were nights during which she lay awake, listening to the sounds of the house - the candle melting next to her, the wind stealthily rattling the paper door in its frame, the imaginary creak on the floorboards. In the morning she was determined to warm up the upcoming winter with thoughts of a prosperous, flourishing dojo; doubling the amount of her schedules would be a small price to pay for new disciples and the furtherance of the Kamiya Kasshin Ryuu. And she would pull it off, too. Springtime was, after all, far too early for pessimism, undue or otherwise, whether you were young and alone or older and seasoned.
