Esquire Fiction Contest: write a short story based on one of the three titles provided.

Writing progress
June 1 500 more words for the wuxia novel, mostly thanks to coffee.
June 2 1,800 words, sans coffee. That watch-favorite-old-series-while-you-work trick works. Favorite old series, because you already know the story, and don't get distracted too much from the writing.
June 3 500 words (I fell asleep, and there was a blackout).
Will try to stay more awake today.

Editor Unleashed is holding a flash fiction contest for stories less than 1,000 words long.

I might have to post my writing progress here, to add to the public humiliation, i.e. to get me to actually write and catch up with my wordcount. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.

Ask me a question about one of my stories. It can be absolutely anything in any fic and I will tell you the honest-to-god answer. Don’t hold back. Ask about my plans for future parts of my current series if you want to. (but keep in mind, I may not have anything firm/definite in the works) Anything. Whatever you ask, I will try my best to answer.

Shoot. Anything at all. Fanfic or original.

1. Building Your Own World.
"When creating a world, whether it's fantasy or science fiction or paranormal, all the bits and pieces have to hold together and work together...Everything has to work, and work with everything else."
"The fact is that creating a good fantasy or SF setting takes just as much work as researching a real-world historical setting. It’s just a different kind of work."
I've found giving a twist on an already known world to be a little easier, as in a historical fantasy story. (I should do something - anything - about Wings of Glass)

2. Move It Or Lose It Writing Contest: the lead character must hit three cities within the span of the story. Deadline is July 31, 2008.

2. This one made its round a while back.

"The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, What-If-X-Happened etc.). I will then explain what story from that fandom I would write for that AU."

SFReader 6th Annual Short Story Contest is taking entries until the end of December.

[info]ficlets100, but you can choose whether to write 25, 50 or 100 ficlets. One-word prompts can, I find, be more encouraging if it's a community where claims are obligatory.

I've always wanted to post fic recs but don't because 1) I can't find that many fics to rec (I've always been a choosy reader) and 2) there are better journals and communities who do this sort of stuff far better than I ever would. But, uh, no time to start like the present?
